American Cockroaches

American Cockroaches are frequently also called Waterbugs because they are found in damp, dark, secluded areas, especially those with access to water. Reddish brown and often growing up to 1 1/2″ long, American Roaches aren’t threatening, but do spread germs and bacteria, and they breed quickly. Our Protection Plans can get them out and keep them out for you.

American Cockroach Facts
The favorite place for an American Cockroach to set up shop is warm, humid, and dark. Commonly found in steam heat tunnels or in large institutional buildings, they are often found near garbage, accesses to sewers, and sump pumps.

Young roaches, known as nymphs, can be found in dark basements, crawl spaces, and floor drains. Most often, they congregate in open spaces instead of small cracks and crevices.

The American Cockroach also likes damp locations and access to water. Indoors, they can be found in dark, moist areas like basements, crawl spaces, and around bathtubs and enclosed plumbing – also the type of areas where mother roaches prefer to have their babies.

The preferred diet of the American Cockroach is rotting organic matter, but they will eat…almost anything. They really like sweets, too, which is why they will also feed on starchy items like book bindings (check the attic) and the back of wall paper. We know this, and can find them for you.
